With the popularity of films growing all the time, the general public became interested in film making and screen writing, as demonstrated by these two popular handbooks which encouraged readers to write their own scripts and to learn how to become a cinematographer.

These two books are novelisations of silent films and tell the story of each film alongside images from the film itself. The productions appear to be very theatrical and stylised as opposed to the more naturalistic style of cinema which viewers are familiar with today.
